How to use Regaine

Regaine® is a solution that contains the active ingredient minoxidil in a mixture of alcohol, propylene glycol and water.

For best results, you need to apply the treatment twice a day - preferably once in the morning and once at night. Don't miss any applications.

To start the treatment, you first need to make sure the scalp is dry and that the skin is healthy and intact.

Next, use the dropper to apply 1 mL of Regaine® to the hair loss area of your scalp.

Then you need to lightly massage the solution into your scalp.

How to use the dropper

Remove the large outer cap from the bottle; unscrew the child resistant cap. Hold the bottle upright. While making sure that the dropper is immersed in the solution, squeeze the bulb to fill the dropper to the black line. The applicator now contains one full dose (1 mL) of Regaine® and is ready for use.

Aim the dropper to the area of the scalp you wish to treat, lifting any hair out of the way with your fingers or comb. Gently squeeze the dropper bulb and apply the solution.

Replace the child-resistant dropper by screwing the dropper firmly onto the bottle. Place the larger outer cap on the bottle when not in use.

Dos and Don'ts

When using Regaine®

you can:
  • Continue to use hair sprays and other common hair products, provided you apply Regaine® to a clean dry scalp before the other products.
  • Continue to dye or perm your hair. Just remember to tell your hairdresser that you are using Regaine®. They may ask you to stop treatment 24 hours before the dye or perm to avoid the possibility of any chemical reactions.
  • Apply sunscreen four hours after the application of Regaine®. If it's not possible to wait that long, the sunscreen should be applied no sooner than two hours after application. For your second daily application, the sunscreen should be shampooed off the scalp. If your scalp gets sunburnt do not apply Regaine® until the burn has healed. A hat may be worn as an alternative to using a sunscreen. Make sure you wait at least one hour after using Regaine® before wearing your hat.
  • Use it after swimming as long as your scalp is dry.
you should always:
  • Avoid contact with the eyes and irritated skin. If there is accidental contact of Regaine® to your eyes, mouth, nose, ears, or broken or irritated skin, bathe the area with large amounts of cool tap water.
  • Continue to use Regaine® as directed by your pharmacist or doctor.
you should never:
  • Change your dose of or stop using it without first asking your pharmacist or doctor for advice.
  • Take Regaine® orally to help hair growth. The solution is designed for external use only.
  • Apply the solution to any area of the body other than the scalp.
  • Use any other product in conjunction with Regaine® without first discussing it with your pharmacist or doctor.
  • Apply more than 1 mL of Regaine® and do not use more than twice daily to make up for the dose you missed.
Side effects

Because Regaine® contains an alcohol base, a few users may experience skin irritation. This problem is usually temporary, but if it continues, stop using the product and seek advice from your doctor or pharmacist.

In very rare instances Regaine® can cause other side effects. If you notice anything unusual, seek advice from your pharmacist or doctor.
